Marie-Elsa Sgualdo (Switzerland) graduated from HEAD Geneva and holds an MA in screenwriting from INSAS Brussels. In addition to directing several short films, she has worked as an assistant to directors such as Ursula Meier and Emmanuelle Antille. She is a co-founder of the Swiss film collective Terrain Vague.

Synopsis

In 1940s rural Switzerland, 15-year-old Emma’s life is shattered after she is raped by a visiting journalist. Facing the rigid moral hypocrisy of her religious community, she carries her tragedy in silence. Director Sgualdo explores social repression through Lila Gueneau’s emotive face, crafting a subtle and moving study of a female character navigating a landscape of prejudice.
