Pedro Pinho (Lisbon, 1977) is a Portuguese director and producer, co-founder of Terratreme. His documentary "Bab Sebta" (2008) was awarded at FIDMarseille. He gained international acclaim with his first fiction feature, "The Nothing Factory" (2017), which won the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes. In 2025, he returned to Cannes Un Certain Regard with "The Laugh and the Knife," where lead actress Cleo Diára won Best Performance.

Synopsis
Sérgio, an environmental engineer in West Africa, discovers that his predecessor vanished mysteriously. Pedro Pinho (The Nothing Factory) offers a lucid reflection on post-colonialism, international cooperation, and new forms of power. The film interrogates the abused notions of modernization and development, exposing the racial and geographic tensions that perpetuate European economic dominance over Africa.
