Synopsis

In a peripheral neighborhood suspended between countryside and city, the low houses of postwar migrants coexist with the more recent apartment blocks of a commuter town shaped by new waves of immigration. This small territory—almost anonymous on the map—gradually becomes a kind of global village where languages, memories, and different ways of inhabiting the world intersect. José Luis Guerín once again unfolds his patient gaze, attentive to what might seem minor or incidental. Historias del buen valle takes shape as a mosaic of lives and stories in which social, generational, and cultural tensions emerge, alongside reflections on landscape, memory, and urban transformation. Without dramatization or emphasis, the film observes, listens, and allows time to do its work. In this simple gesture—looking with curiosity and respect—Guerín finds a luminous way of thinking about the present. A film of rare delicacy, attuned to the quiet dignity of everyday life. It also marks Guerín’s return to cinema following the acclaimed La Academia de las Musas, that fascinating cinematic experiment which premiered at this very festival a decade ago.
