Marcelo Gomes is a director, screenwriter, and visual artist from Recife. A key figure in contemporary Brazilian cinema, he debuted with "Cinema, Aspirinas e Urubus" (2005), screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes. His filmography includes "Joaquim" (2017), "Paloma" (2022), and "Portrait of a Certain Orient" (2024), known for combining strong visual aesthetics with deep human realism. Maria Clara Escobar is a filmmaker, screenwriter, and poet graduated from the Darcy Ribeiro Film School. Her documentary "Os dias com ele" (2013) won major awards at DocLisboa and Tiradentes. She served as screenwriter for "Found Memories" (Venice) before directing her first fiction feature, "Desterro" (2020). She has also published poetry and worked as a casting director for international productions.

Synopsis

A three-generation family portrait where the mundane coexists with the surreal. From a grandmother’s gambling obsession to a granddaughter’s fascination with firearms, the film uses a slightly uncanny atmosphere and dreamlike urban cinematography to explore the dissonant desires that bind and separate these women.
