Synopsis

Told from the perspective of a ten-year-old girl, the film follows her journey—and that of her friends—from childhood into adolescence. Despite living in houses with dirt floors, without running water, in the arid Brazilian sertão, they insist they were born with advantages: the ability to eat, study, play, and dream of a better future. The girls invent time machines and travel back to a past shaped by pure survival. They playfully engage with complex themes such as gender inequality, alcoholism, and religion, joking about death, frustration, and fear. Here an italic text to test. Gradually, childhood innocence gives way to a mix of curiosity and anxiety about growing up. When they realize that resisting time is futile, they turn toward the future, imagining themselves as independent and successful women. An inventive reflection on autonomy and girlhood in a world where even dreaming was once an unreachable privilege.
