World Premiere and Presentation of the Series Diary of an Infiltrator

Parallel Activities of the 44th Uruguay International Film Festival

España, Chile, 2026 / Dir: Saúl Valverde, Samuel León / Cap. 1, 2: 130 min.

Spanish filmmaker Miguel Herberg infiltrated the Chilean far right, encouraged by his Italian partners and friends Renzo and Roberto Rossellini, and the Uruguayan Danilo Trelles, between 1972 and 1974. He obtained hundreds of documents, films, and photographs revealing how the coup d’état in Chile was orchestrated, the involvement of Nixon’s government, and the subsequent period of repression and Pinochetist violence. He managed to film unique images inside the concentration camps of Chacabuco and Pisagua, material that he later made public, forcing the regime to release many prisoners. From that moment on, Miguel became part of Pinochet’s secret service blacklist, as a target to be punished outside Chile. Now, 50 years later, Miguel resumes his journey to reunite with those former prisoners and, together with them, uncover this extraordinary story of courage, the Cold War, cinematic espionage, and historical memory.
