She is the founder/director of the International Latino Film Festival – San Francisco Bay Area (1997-2008), the Todos Santos Film Festival in Baja California Sur, Mexico (in its 19th edition), and serves as the Artistic Co-Director of the Festival du Cinéma et Mémoire Commune in Nador, Morocco. She has curated programs for international festivals in Trieste, Italy, Malaga, Moscow, the Festival de Nador, and the Festival de las Artes in Agadir, Morocco. Sylvia is regularly invited as a jury member to international festivals such as Moscow, New Delhi, Kerala, Athens, Malaga, Valladolid, Madrid, San Francisco, London, Morocco, among others.
In 1998, Sylvia founded the Leonardo Perel Film School, a project that has produced over 30 films created by children and teenagers in the United States, Mexico, and Argentina. Her film «Alicia en el país de las ballenas» (direction, production, and screenplay) is currently part of the international film festival circuit.
